[social network] ning

is mbb interested to set up its own social network (similar to kotzot/myspace/facebook) for FREE?
ning (http://www.ning.com/) looks like a nice place to have everything on one page: blog,
forum, members list (with avatars on display), photos, videos, music, forum...
the network can be private or public...
it offers member badge (though it's generic n does not allow for upload of ur own badge...me think)...
still badge is kinda cool coz member's avatar is displayed on it...
if administrator allows it, members can upload their own pics n videos for sharing...photos can also be added from flickr....
videos can also be embedded from youtube...
thanks to a text box, i think a shout box can be made available for shout-out addicts...
each member has their own personal page...if they wish, members maintain a blog section...
i'm not sure if the blog section can be made to display entries from our own blogger/ wordpress blogs...
the template is easily customisable (via widgets).
each member can customize his/her own layout...(generic vs. CSS coding)
knowledge of programming is not required but source code can be accessed (free) for advanced tweaking (admin only, duh!) ...

wat do you guys think? it looks like the next logical step since mbb seems to be about community...

I'm tired of all these social network sites cropping up everywhere... I don't like Facebook as well... (it's too much of a chore to keep updating your profile, denying those annoying requests, keeping tabs on friend's privacy, join discussion groups with 1k people... )

Nothing's better than a blog or proper forum!

yeah...i agree as well!
we play with the network for a while n see how it goes...
there r 43 of us...yet only a handful r contributing! maybe something like ning will get them out of their lurk-mode...

edit:
btw, everything that is already on MBB's blogger can be "copy paste" straight to the ning's blog section...
i think they allow for author to alter the time n date each entry is posted...

ning allows for rss feed reader...
user can have either their blog entries in full or only the title displayed in ning!
only prob is that it's in sidebar...i guess only admin can change it to center of screen...

Yes, will the mbb please move the RSS reader to the centre... so that each members' page will appear like their blog!

I'm beginning to like Ning... seems to be better than Facebook!

It seems like I can only reposition the widget in the main page and not for each member's page.
