What was the last really good movie that you have watched?
I have noticed that good movies are being rare. when was the last time you watched a really good movie? a movie that left you shocked or inspired... give the title of the movie too
Re: What was the last really good movie that you have watched?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0308152/plotsummaryFor the past 20 years, Frank Harrington has grudgingly driven his
family to celebrate Christmas with his mother-in-law. This year, he
takes a shortcut. It's the biggest mistake of his life: The nightmare
begins. A mysterious woman in white wanders through the forest, leaving
death in her wake. A terrifying black car - its driver invisible -
carries the victims into the heart of the night. Every road sign points
to a destination they never reach. The survivors succumb to panic, to
madness; deeply buried secrets burst to the surface, and Christmas
turns into a living hell.

Re: What was the last really good movie that you have watched?
Ha recently i've seen epic movie (excellent, j'etais quasiment plie de rire du debut a la fin xD many references / parodies (the old harry potter was hilarious ))
ou sinon hypercube (was a bit boring though...)
big deception for "jumpers", the trailer sounded like, wow, but the movie just doesn't fulfill all these promises :/
sinon @ carrot, i did not really like 30 Days of Night...
(m'enfin on the other hand i'm a very difficult audience when it comes to horror and fantasticfilms)

Just watched Diary of Dead... another gore/horror zombie flick. Not bad, it's like 1st-person cam filming like in Cloverfield!
Just downloaded Jumper, will watch it soon.
Sinon, I've loved Indiana 4, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk & Spiderwick Chronicles!

Iron Man was up to my expectations.
Into the Wild made me cry.
Le Scaphandre et le Papillon was simply beautiful.
Narnia 2 was really cool (saw it this week end)

Re: What was the last really good movie that you have watched?
I think the problem with me and fantasy movies (Narnia / HP / LOTR....)
is that i read the novel first, and find the movie adaptation so...... "fade" in comparison (forcément, vu que ces films sont souvent "tous publics" et les realisateurs se permettent quelques libertés par rapport au scenar officiel) so i often find those movies kind of disappointing... :/
sinon dans la categorie "films tellement nimp' , inutile donc indispensable" j'ai recemment vu "la resurrection de la petite fille aux allumettes", priceless xD

Re: What was the last really good movie that you have watched?
I'm a fan of Sci-fi films and Tolkien and Pratchett are my favourite writers. I know that films are quite tasteless compared to the books (for example, in LOTR, the film, the whole Tom Bombadil scene has been ripped off) but a film like this is what would bring "non-readers" or "anti-fantasy" people to come into contact with the story and at least learn a bit about those stories. It might not be the best approach but its an approach at least.
Examples of films really different from the books:
Un long dimanche de fiancailles (lightyears away)
Dune (wonderful film but lacking real important scenes, Sting is great in it)
Da Vinci Code (not to be talked about, I actually prefer Angels and Demons)

That is a big problem... especially with the Harry Potter series!!! Same for Narnia, Golden Compass, etc.
I only enjoyed HP3, none of the other movies... Haven't watched HP5 yet! (I couldn't last 15 mins into the movie!)
Otherwise the only movie that I think has surpassed the book is LOTR!!!
Re: What was the last really good movie that you have watched?
yeah i kinda see what you mean, a kind of "vulgarisation"
now if those movies make the genre known to the public, why not? but i just hope that it encourages those people to read the book.
'fin bref, i think the novels are often better because not tied by the constraints of a movie (whose length is limited to about 3hrs grand maximum) and the author has some more liberty to convey his story
(Adaptations of Stephen King's books are often excellent though )
sinon @ carrotmadman6, +1 (for hp5 and LOTR )

Because in 90% of the cases, Stephen King himself produced them, like Hitchcock did.
Re: What was the last really good movie that you have watched?
I just watched Black Hawk Down today. The DVD has been lying at my place for ages and today its only today that I decided to watch it. Old flick, but nice. Very nice..
