Screenshots or thumbshots
I always try to perform thumbshots for my blog but most of the time they tend to be really messed up when I resize. I do the resize manually. I'd like to know what programs or ways you use to get your thumbshots. Could you post a sort of step by step?
Re: Screenshots or thumbshots
To get a good thumbshot you can use the usual PrintScreen technique, that is pressing the PrtSc button on the keyboard and pasting it on any image editing software (Photoshop, Microsoft Paint etc) and then saving the large screen print in JPEG format which is really light.
To resize, you can use a software called the VSO Image Resizer which can be downloaded here: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/vso-image-resizer.html
Try it. I'm sure your screenshots will be fine this time

Me i use macrosof office picture manager for resizing pictures quickly, but for better result, i advise going with "The gimp" its free, and available for both windows and linux! And its as powerful as those commercial graphic software.
Re: Screenshots or thumbshots
hmm yeah, this macrosof office picture manager is by default installed with office 2003 and later...so u just printscreen, paste in paint brush, save as jpg, then right-click on picture, open with macrosof officie picture machin...and here u go , u can crop only the parts u need, and then resize very easily.

Re: Screenshots or thumbshots
I use FarStone Image Viewer for batch-resizing my pictures. It has some advanced options like Optimizing Huffman tables, which can make your pictures really small in size, even less than 10K sometimes. Really useful for conversion.
Else, I use printscreen to get screencaps, or use google images if I need caps and too lazy to do them myself.

Re: Screenshots or thumbshots
since you seem to be using XP, why not use the image resize power toy. Right click on a picture, select resize, enter size, click ok. Done.

For resizing many images @ once, try Irfanview: http://www.irfanview.com/
Linux users can use any free image editing app such as Kolour paint, or this one - http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Environment/Tools/Resize-Image-18984.shtml
Still, if your images are of a high resolution but small in size (footprint), just specify the size of the thumbnail in the <img> tag.
If you want to add some javascript, try adding a lightbox. I believe there are plugins for wordpress for this.
Here's one -> http://zeo.unic.net.my/notes/wp-lightbox-js-wordpress-plugin/
Else, you may use the following: http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox/
