Extract:

“From now on, we will organise activities every
12 March to condemn cyber-censorship throughout the world,” Reporters
Without Borders said. “A response of this kind is needed to the growing
tendency to crack down on bloggers and to close websites."

Did you hear what happened to K.B and A.A @ Radio One? What exactly is fake news? Should a fake news lead to the arrestation of journalists in a democracy?

Man, I wonder how come Jon Stewart and S. Colbert (fake news guys but their shows do bring an insight on real life - kinda metaphorical news leading to the truth) have not been arrested in the U.S yet?

No, they made allegations about the head of our country. they hadn't verified the source. sure, they did apologise but still. they should have checked out the information. they should be sued for these allegations.

however, there was a dude named Kalikan who had threatened one of the journalists - according to Finlay Salesse. apparently, the former was an advisor to the prime minister. this is a shame - you can't threaten someone.

i'm sick of hearing people offering their support to r1. people should understand that r1 was at fault as much as the kalikan dude who according to my understanding of facts, is the cause leading to the arrestation. people should support freedom of the press and not just 1 single radio station, and not base themselves only on this particular case.

both parties are wrong. one of them apologised. that's a good thing.

is the freedom of the press threatened? yup! the fuss is good but it's misleading.

Saying that the PM is sick isn't something of a joke (at least not in Mauritius). But as long as they've publicly excused themselves, they should be let off this time.

& actually it depends on the seriousness of the fake news. No one should be able to make unfounded statements henceforth. But the press does have the bad habit of blowing things out of proportion... Rolling Eyes (sensationalism)

It is a big deal! We all look to the PM! He's our leader! Don't be biased - you're blaming them 'coz you don't "like" their ways. In the above case, both parties are wrong.

fake news regarding politics have always been treated like something huge. Take in the US, there was a really popular newspaper which printed elections results that were inaccurate and the paper lost its credibility afterwards.

About the R1 case, I read that the police interrogated the journalists for hours, that seems a little exagerated, but on the other hand R1 people should have confirmed the news. But they apologised, so I dunno.

This reminds me of another case when an MBC journalist and a cameraman were dismissed because they arrived late for an interview with the PM and an ambassador or something.
