Who is the Best INTERNET Provider in MAURITIUS??

damn, i can't get myself to say it! (set!)
............its the monopolistic ISP of course Ritesh,
its name begins with an "o" and finishes with a "range" (go!!! )

non mais serieusement, we are locked in with orange, their prices, their FUP, and whatever else they decide since they are in a position of power until another isp (emtel?) dares to break the status quo by aquiring the means to provide internet access independantly of z'orange... till then i guess orange still remains the best deal we have got here in MU despite all its flaws...

1st thing... there is no best internet provider. It's more likely who's the least worst!

Nomad -> 64k-128k-512k
Pros: Portable
Cons: Weather-dependent, has a login service, no Customer Care (makes u mad), you never get the connection you pay for...

Emtel -> 384k+ (up to 1.8Mbps)
Pros: Portable, most reliable connection in Mauritius.
Cons: Modem's expensive & capped tariffs.

MTML -> 144k+ (up to 2.4Mbps)
Pros: Portable, unlimited extreme high-speed!
Cons: Modem's expensive, high-speed coverage only in Plaines Wilhems & Port Louis, buggy coverage.

Orange ADSL ->128k-256k-512k-1Mbps
Pros: Quite reliable, relatively cheap (depends on your budget)
Cons: Capped FUP, high traffic load at peak times, 2 weeks wait time for installation, not portable,

Well for me MY-T is a good one, cause its not only the Internet, You have the digital TV and the phone line with international roaming like the SEZAM prepaid card and tariff is not so bad for a 256 kbps and unlimited download @ 750rs + vAT!! But its not wireless !!

Ok, livebox is ok then. You usually get everything through it. Its the most common way of subscribing here too.

Man... 750Rs!!! I remember when I used to pay 50 sous for "ène demi" to go from Beau Bassin to Rose Hill by bus... Yeah, that was some 20 years ago

...YA things have really changed here now, as we are a Cyber Island, we are paying to live in a Cyber world, but I think Its a bit too early to say that Mauritius is a Cyber Island, whats your opinion??

traffic is all but unlimited for myT 256k if i remember correctly (am not really sure, carrot will be able to confirm) i think you have about 3gb/month before they throttle your bandwidth
but i agree though, that's one of the best compromises you have here

You are rite, thank , am feeling better now, but I still have a wish for a wireless network, cause I will buy a Laptop next month, so when I move with the laptop I can bring along my modem, well am talking about Nomad or Emtel, but to expensive these wireless modem specialy the Emtel one, may be they could give payment facilities!!

Livebox normalement éna wireless access included.

oui oui mais mo croir li pé coz le fait ki nomad / emtel allow you to connect where ever you are (i.e. not just at home) with the modem via wimax (enfin en théorie )

I'd say go with MyT.. I've been a long time Orange (previously MT) customer since a long time and I never really had any Internet problems.

Hi friends, just watch this on news yesterday and its about the Net pC that Mauritius telecom is selling, take a look at MT web page, I think this not a bad idea and its on promotion!!

Wai ban net PC intéressant. Mo ti p servi ca pendant ène létemps. Des fois selement li emmerdant parski to bizin sanz PC pou print ou bien fer ène sauvegarde. En plis sauvegarde MT li lor zot server.

WELL I will going to the customer's service MT so that I can more info about it, but am working whole day may be in weekand!!

IMO it's a low-cost contraption of a PC. & it's not even a PC - more like a modem with addons!

OK, I have regular PC at home with everything in it, if I connect the two device by network cable via the ETHERNET PORT, do the Net PC will recognise my Regular PC on a network system?? I will use the NET PC for updating my blog, downloads and to keep in touch with MBB FORUM and all the data can copy and paste on my regular PC!!

OK, Friends, thank for all your supports and I have finally decide to take MY-T 256 K...Already register to it but must wait for about 2-3 weeks to have the connection, but we can continue to discuss on this topic because I have a lot to learn on this matter!!
