Hobby Blog

Ok guys I'm very much tempted now seeing that all of you have got one. I want to have a sort of personal blog; a blog where I can talk about
my hobbies which are detective fiction, movies, animes, etc...

I have always had blogs with a pro-focus. It was usually 1/4 pleasure and 3/4 work. Ideas, Drafts, Research... It usually takes a lot of my
limited free time. But I've seen most of you here with a personal focus to your blog. Can you describe your experiences? If after a few months
you think it was worth your time investment. What did you get out of blogging about your passions? How much time do you devote to your blog?

I have very little free time and I was wondering if it is worthwhile to create a hobby blog.

When i blog about crafts it takes quite some time. Cause i have to make the stuff which i will be posting.usually i post about crafts during the holidays. but for other stuff it's not really a problem, like for music, i just say what comes to my mind when i hear a particular song. for a personal blog, an opinion has to be personal, and i find this easier. for instance no one will ever read a pro music review on my blog. when i talk about a book, it's quite vague, i just say what's on my mind.

What did you get out of blogging about your passions?
I got the satisfaction of keeping an online journal of my passions. say in 5 years if i forget how to make a lantern, my blog will be here to remind me.
got to meet people who were doing more or less the same stuff as well.

So in other words it does not feel like work to you?

nope! it's not work du tout! it's relaxing plutot.

Create it. If its successful, good enough... Else you could try later when you have more time..

my hobby is poetry. my blog is all about it. it does not take me time to post but i dont post often. quite rarely but it's great to be able to read my poems there

When is a post too personal? When I write about my opinions on a subject, I like to give my opinions. Not what some guy thought etc... Or just taking a quote from a famous person and make it as if it is your opinion too.

I have tried to write this post based on what I've been reading on other personal blogs. Except for morinn, jevin and fadil here, most other bloggers are anonymous. Even the admin here is anon. So it is easier to give your opinions when you are anon.

So another question for you people. When is blogging too personal? When you reveal too much about yourself? Or when you reveal too much about other people around you? Or just when you vent your opinions?

I personally don't think blogging can ever get too personal. for me i know when I started blogging I felt the need to post about every little detail of my life even now I do it, on special occasions mainly. it's fun, yeah it's personal but i tend to think people are interested in my life ( which is not true, really)

i don't know how to define my blog but it is not personal (not about me, my life) but I give my personal opinion on some subjects at random. I think those who maintain personal blogs about their life and who are great at it are awesome. it is interesting to read those posts and to know about a person whom you knew only as a character online.
for instance Yan i would love to read your personal blog because all i know from you is diethack. you are like a celeb here and i think many other people share that same opinion getting to know more of your personal life sounds thrilling.

lol. You must be kidding. Im just an ordinary guy. I've put limited access to the blog. Huh.. From the feedback I got from the 1st post, it seems it is too personal.

Anyone can give opinions, it's not personal... & frankly, that's the purpose of a blog... to give opinions & share your views.

But what i think is personal is when you reveal too much about you. If you don't mind exposing your private life to everyone, then there isn't any problem in having a personal blog... but avoid offending anyone! Otherwise you can still try to keep a veil of anonymity.

In a blog, be it personal or not. It always end up to be personal. Because we write what we think. So there is no boundary.

Maybe, a personal blog is when you write what you did today and all these blah blah blah

Point noted. But I think your opinions are personal because your opinions must have been based on some real life experiences you have had at some point in your life. If I asked you if you are for or against abortion, you wont use some persons opinions on that matter to come up with your own.
